Chef App
An AI-powered meal planning app that helps home chefs plan and execute multi-course meals with smart scheduling, flavor analysis, and live cooking support.
The problem with multi-course meals
Cooking a multi-course meal for guests is an exercise in project management that most home chefs wing. You end up with three dishes that all need the oven at the same time, two courses that are both heavy and salty, and a timeline that falls apart the moment something takes longer than expected. The stress kills the joy.
Chef App solves this by treating a dinner party like a production: structured recipes, intelligent scheduling, and AI that catches problems before they happen.
Core features
Smart recipe import. Paste a URL, text, or photo of a recipe and AI parses it into structured data: ingredients, steps with individual timing, flavor tags (salty, acid, sweet, umami), cooking method, and temperature requirements. Supports local and seasonal food prioritization.
Multi-course meal composer. Select recipes, group them into named meals, drag-and-drop to reorder courses. Assign themes or occasions (“Nico’s Birthday”, “Italian Summer”) to keep context.
AI workback scheduler. Input your serve time, guest count, and available equipment (one oven, a smoker, an air fryer, sous-vide). The AI generates a step-by-step timeline including prep, cooking, resting, and plating. It highlights tasks you can do days in advance and flags equipment conflicts before they happen.
Flavor and sequence advisor. Analyzes your course lineup and warns about repetition. Two umami-heavy dishes back to back? It suggests reordering, adding a palate cleanser, or swapping an ingredient. The flow of a meal matters as much as individual dishes.
Dietary restriction filter. Add each guest’s dietary needs (allergies, vegetarian, gluten-free). Recipes get flagged if non-compliant. AI suggests ingredient substitutions or adjusted recipes that maintain the dish’s intent.
AI drink pairing. Cocktail, wine, or non-alcoholic suggestions per course, tailored by cuisine type, flavor intensity, and user preferences. Theme-based pairings optional (“rum-forward drinks for Caribbean night”).
Panic button. Mid-cooking rescue when things go wrong. Missing an ingredient? Something burnt? Behind schedule? One tap gets you an adjusted timeline, substitution options, or skip suggestions to still finish strong.
What it represents
This project is the intersection of AI reasoning and real-world constraints. The scheduling problem alone (multiple dishes, shared equipment, variable timing, prep-ahead opportunities) is genuinely complex. Adding flavor analysis, dietary filtering, and live cooking support on top makes it a serious AI application, not a wrapper around a prompt.
